Introduction to Teaching Little Athletics Skills Course - Grafton
The Introduction to Teaching Little Athletics Skills (ITLAS) Course helps participants become better-placed to assist children perform basic athletics skills.
It is a practical course designed for Little Athletics personnel. It covers how to introduce the skills for each Little Athletics event. Participants will learn event-specific drills, games, and activities to use with the target age group.
Date: Sunday, 23 October 2022
Venue: Westlawn Public School, 239 North Street, Grafton
Age: Minimum is 16yrs+ on the day of the course
Time: 9.30am - 4.00pm (arrival at 9.15am)
Fee: The course fee is $70 per participant.
Closing Date: 12pm Thursday 20 October 2022, or earlier if maximum numbers are reached.
Who is the course for?
The course is great for parents, school teachers and other interested people who want to know a little more about teaching the skills of the sport.
Content
The areas covered include:
- Track - Running, Standing Starts, Hurdles, Race Walking, and Relays
- Jumps - Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump (Scissors only)
- Throws - Shot Put (Standing), Discus (Standing), and Javelin (3-stride approach)
*Basic rules of some events will be covered.
Course Outcomes
As a result of the course the participant will, for the target age group:
- Better understand an appropriate working model for each Little Athletics event
- Have a greater knowledge of drills, skills, games, and activities for each event
- Identify some of the more common technical faults associated with each event
- Have a basic understanding of a simple coaching session
- Better understand how to organise and keep a group safe
