Become an Official
Athletics is a dynamic sport that thrives on the contributions of individuals from various roles, including athletes, coaches, administrators (at the club, centre, and national levels), and officials. As an official, you'll play a vital role in helping athletes perform at their best and achieve their dreams.
Officiating at athletics competitions is both flexible and enjoyable. You can choose to attend as many or as few events as your schedule allows. We especially encourage young people to get involved and discover the excitement of the sport. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to your community.
Level 1 courses
Our Level 1 course is a great way to take your first step in becoming an official, by learning about Athletics from the official's point of view, what you're looking for and how to assist athletes in an encouraging and collaborative environment. It involves a 2-hour overview of athletics, including safety and safeguarding ("the General officiating seminar") which is mandatory for all participants. This is followed by event specific seminars.
Agenda:
Tuesday 1 July 6-8pm General officiating seminar (intro, H&S, core knowledge)
Please note that the General officiating seminar is mandatory, but it is the participants choice as to which of the event categories they attend (e.g. Walks or Out of Stadia).
