Technical Regulations

All athletes must familiarise themselves with these rules before submitting their entry.


Eligibility

You must be a club registered athlete for the current 2023-2024 season.


Grades

Age as at 31st December 2024
U16 athletes aged 14 &amp; 15
U18 athletes aged 16 &amp; 17
U20 athletes aged 18 &amp; 19
Senior athletes aged 20 and over

Please note the following:
U16 athletes aged 15 as at 31 December 2024, may choose to compete up in U18 but must choose one age grade per event.&nbsp; For example, you may compete in U16 Triple Jump or U18 Triple Jump.U18 athletes aged 16 or 17 as at 31 December 2024, may choose to compete in U18 and/or U20 per event.
U20 athletes aged 18 or 19 as at 31 December 2024, may choose to compete in U20 and/or Senior per event.


Entry Standards

Entry standards should have been performed in the 2023-2024 season.&nbsp; However, for athletes who have not competed extensively due to injury or other reasons, a standard from the 2022-2023 season will be considered.&nbsp; Additionally, Athletics New Zealand will consider dispensations to these standards in certain circumstances.&nbsp; Contact the Athletics New Zealand Events Team through&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="rich-text-link" href="mailto:competitions@athletics.org.nz">competitions@athletics.org.nz</a> with any dispensation requests.

&nbsp;Para Athletes To view the Para Event Grid (<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://athletics.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Copy-of-Para-Event-Grid.pdf">click here</a>) and Entry Standards (<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://athletics.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/2020-ANZ-Senior-Under-20-Under-17-Para-Athletics-Qualification-Standards-Updated-Jan-2021.pdf">click here</a>). Shoes

U18, U20 and Senior athletes: competition shoes need to comply with World Athletics regulations under Technical Rule 5.&nbsp; Please be sure to check that your shoes are on the approved list.&nbsp; You can check on the World Athletics website&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="rich-text-link" href="https://www.worldathletics.org/about-iaaf/documents/technical-information">here</a>.&nbsp; This list is updated regularly.&nbsp; Please note that any shoes bought before 1 January 2016 are deemed to meet the requirements of Technical Rule 5.&nbsp;
